After the successful premiere of Fire & Water – The Thomas Brown Story last November there are moves to erect a monument to the young man in his native North Shields.

The efforts of the 15 year old Thomas helped salvage the vital Enigma Code documents which led to the cracking of the code and a shortening by several months of World War Two. The play was seen by more than one thousand people at The Exchange. North Tyneside Mayor Norma Redfearn is said be a supporter of some permanent marker, possibly in the redevelopment area round Howard Street and Northumberland Square. More on this as it happens.

Meantime, Ema Lea of Primate Productions has been editing the film of the play and this editing is now in the later phases. Primate shot the play over four separate performances and the film will be given a public viewing at The Exchange. Dates later.

We have a new sketch show bubbling away and it will see the light of day in the Autumn where The Gay Horse & Similar Untoward Sketches is booked into The Karma Coast Festival in mid-September. We’ll be looking for other bookings around that time and hope to perform for the first time at Laurels, the new and exciting small theatre in Whitley Bay. If you know any potential small venues with a leaning towards the absurd and the surreal, let us know. Despite their better judgement, actors Pip Chamberlin, Jill Dellow and Fin Healey are signed up to perform the eight sketches.

Finally, we hope to do a rehearsed reading night at The Exchange later in the year. Two new short plays from Noreen Rees and Dan Crowe are already on the list and we’re interested in any more new quality stuff.
